Our History

First Baptist Church of Warren, Texas was first organized in 1888 as the Missionary Baptist Church. The name was changed to First Baptist Church in November of 1945. This church has a history of growing in its work for God, always going forward in faith, standing firm on the truths of the Bibles and in teaching salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Many dedicated people of God have given of their time, money and talents to accomplish His work. Always a mission minded Church, it is the prayer of the First Baptist Church family to continue to be as steadfast and faithful as those before us have been.

During the early years, the Church was active in the Fifth Sunday meetings of area churches and the Associational meetings. Meeting in a community building for a number of years, the preaching was held one weekend a month, on Friday and Saturday nights; also Sundays at 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The minutes from June 12, 1910, mention a new church house "being built at this place." The building, consisting of one auditorium, five classrooms, chairs and seats was later donated to the Church and became the location of the Fellowship Hall and Church office. In 1915, Prayer Meetings started and were held on Friday nights. Sunday School was first mentioned in 1921. Baptism was held in Turkey Creek about a quarter mile from, the now, FM 1943 East. In 1945, the first annex to the church building was completed.
